BCS Championship Game Betting Preview, Ohio State (11-1) vs. LSU (11-2)

BCS Championship Game Betting Preview, Ohio State (11-1) vs. LSU (11-2)

Monday, 8:00 pm Eastern – FOX
SBG Global Opening Line: LSU -5.5 , Total 51.5

The top two teams in the national polls meet on Monday in the BCS Title game as #1 Ohio State takes on #2 LSU. Unfortunately college football does not have a playoff system so a true #1 may not be crowned this year but the game on Monday should still be excellent.
Ohio State is looking to make up for last season’s loss in the title game when they were pounded by Florida while LSU is trying to prove they are the best team in the country. SBG Global reports that early college football betting has the public taking LSU at Home.
Ohio State has had a lot of time off to think about what happened in last year’s game. "Last year we did get complacent," said Butkus Award winner James Laurinaitis, "We felt we were invincible. We have a lot of guys on this team that know what it takes to get it done. We're not looking at last year at all. It's over with. This is a great opportunity for us." The Buckeyes have been off for 51 days since their win over Michigan in their regular season finale. Ohio State watched as many teams including West Virginia and Missouri had chances to play in the title game and lost. LSU also had to wonder whether they would get an invite. They were able to jump over Georgia in the polls and get the BCS National Title shot. The Tigers will become the first team with two losses to play in the BCS championship game.
The game on Monday could be about defense. Ohio State led the nation allowing only 222.5 yards per game. Laurinaitis led the way with 103 tackles. Tackle Vernon Gholston had 13 sacks. LSU will try and move the ball against that defense. The Tigers averaged 38.7 points this season which was good for 12th in the country. LSU has two quarterbacks, Matt Flynn, who threw for 2,233 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and Ryan Perrilloux, who had 694 yards passing, eight TDs and two interceptions. Jacob Hester leads the running attack as he had 1,017 yards this season.

SBG Global Current Line: LSU -3.5 , Total 48

The Ohio State offense can also score. They averaged 32 points per game this season. Quarterback Todd Boeckman completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 2,171 yards, 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Running back Chris Wells rushed for 1,463 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Buckeyes will be facing an LSU defense led by Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner Glenn Dorsey. He leads a defense that gave up 19.6 points per game, 20th in the country in scoring. The Tigers are ranked 3rd in the nation in total defense. They also rank fourth in the nation in turnovers gained and fifth in interceptions with 21.
Ohio State will be trying to win their 5th National Championship. Ohio State and LSU have only played twice in history with Ohio State winning once and the other game ending in a tie. The teams have not played since 1987. Ohio State was a pointspread success this season going 7-4 while LSU did not reward bettors very often. They were 5-7-1 against the spread.
Trends may point to the underdog on Monday. The last time the Buckeyes were an underdog in the title game was in 2002 when they beat Miami as a 12 point underdog. LSU won their National Title in 2004 when they beat Oklahoma as a 6.5 point underdog.
Here are the college football betting stats for Monday’s game. The Buckeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on turf. The Buckeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Bowl games. The Buckeyes are 6-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Buckeyes are 23-8 ATS in their last 31 games overall. The Buckeyes are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog. The Buckeyes are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. the SEC.
The Tigers are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games on turf. The Tigers are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games. The Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Bowl games. The Tigers are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite. The Tigers are 1-5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
The Over is 4-1 in the Buckeyes last 5 games in January. The Under is 7-3 in the Buckeyes last 10 non-conference games. The Over is 7-1 in the Tigers last 8 games as a favorite. The Over is 5-1 in the Tigers last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. The Over is 10-4 in the Tigers last 14 non-conference games.

The group is preparing for the USA's first match of the year, a friendly against Sweden on Jan. 19 at The Home Depot Center.
"This is the beginning of a very important year for the national team, and we are looking forward to continuing the work of 2007," said Bradley, who completed his first year as coach with a 12-5-1 record and the 2007 Gold Cup title to his credit. The group includes 23 players who play for 13 of the 14 Major League Soccer clubs. Colorado is the only team not represented. MLS Soccer Preview, The Sports Network, Dorman to join St Mirren

Paisley, Scotland (Sports Network) - Reports in Scotland confirm that St Mirren has signed former New England Revolution midfielder Andy Dorman to an 18-month contract.
The Scottish Premier League side, which is currently second to last in its league table, is now waiting on international clearance before making the signing official.
The move comes as no surprise as the 25-year-old had been the Steve Nicol's side for the past three seasons, but obviously wanted a return to the UK. The midfielder, who was born in Chester and grew up in Wales, moved to the U.S. in 2000.
"Andy's English, but he's got Welsh international caps at youth level," St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson said.
Dorman joins the Scottish club on a free transfer after his contract with the Revs ran out at the end of December.
MacPherson sees Dorman having a major impact on his club's chances of escaping relegation this season.
"We feel he is the type of player who will definitely strengthen our squad," he said. "He is a box-to-box style midfielder who can score goals, and technically he is very good."

MLS Soccer Preview, The Sports Network, Harkes not retained by Red Bulls

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Red Bulls have parted ways with assistant coach John Harkes, choosing not to retain the former U.S. national team captain on the staff of new head coach Juan Carlos Osorio, according to a report by the Herald News.
Harkes spent one season with the Red Bulls after serving as D.C. United's youth development director. A 2005 inductee into the National Soccer Hall of Fame, the Kearny, N.J., native spent seven seasons playing in England before leading D.C. United to MLS Cup titles in 1996 and 1997.
Other assistant coaches on former Red Bulls head coach Bruce Arena's staff - Richie Williams and Des McAleenan - have better than average chances of being retained by Osorio.

MLS Soccer Preview, The Sports Network, United goalkeeper headed to Valerenga

MLS Soccer Preview, The Sports Network, United goalkeeper headed to Valerenga

Washington, D.C.(Sports Network) - In a move that has been in the works for weeks, D.C. United goalkeeper Troy Perkins will transfer to Norwegian first division club Valerenga after the Major League Soccer club agreed to the transfer Thursday.
"Troy developed into one of the top goalkeepers in MLS during the past four years and it is no surprise that his services are in demand overseas," United general manager Dave Kasper told the Washington Times.
United will get two-thirds of the unspecified transfer fee paid by Valerenga for MLS's 2006 Goalkeeper of the Year.
Perkins is expected to get a considerable raise from the $85,000 he earned in '07 at United.
The 26-year-old joined D.C. in 2004, making 16 starts that season before playing in only two games the following year. After claiming the starting spot from Nick Rimando in 2006, he earned the league's top goalkeeping award while also helping lead the club to the Supporter's Shield. This past season, Perkins played 29 games to help United claim its second consecutive Supporter's Shield. In 77 career starts at United, Perkins earned a 36-19-22 record.
In a move made to prepare for Perkins departure, United acquired goalkeeper Zach Wells from the Houston Dynamo in a trade for defender Bobby Boswell last month.

NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, Chicago Blackhawks aim to continue success versus powerful Detroit Red Wings

NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, Chicago Blackhawks aim to continue success versus powerful Detroit Red Wings

(Sports Network) - Unlike the rest of the league, the Blackhawks may be happy that the Red Wings are coming to town tonight. Chicago will go for its fifth win over Detroit this season when the two clubs meet at the United Center.
After losing 18 of its past 22 against Detroit heading into this campaign, including just two wins against the club over the past two seasons, Chicago has defeated the Red Wings twice at home and twice in Detroit already this year.
Three of those games have been decided by a single goal, with one ending in a shootout. The Blackhawks posted a two-goal victory in the other meeting, November 17 in Detroit.
Chicago has also posted a victory in three straight at home against Detroit after dropping seven in a row there to the franchise.
The Blackhawks will try to put the breaks on a four-game overall slide tonight. After losing against Los Angeles at home in overtime on December 30, Chicago dropped all three games of its recent road trip, getting outscored 15-5 on the swing.
The tour wrapped in Anaheim on Friday, with the Ducks posting a 2-1 victory.
Patrick Sharp had the lone goal for Chicago, his career-high 21st of the season. Sharp, who has skated in 38 games this year, had 20 goals in 80 contests last season.
Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 30-of-32 shots for Chicago, which had won four straight before this skid. Patrick Kane posted an assist in his sixth straight contest.
Chicago is 12-9-1 at home this season, but returns to the road on Tuesday to battle Montreal.
Detroit, meanwhile, won its second straight game and sixth in seven tests by blanking Dallas, 3-0, on Saturday. Dominik Hasek stopped 22 shots in recording his 78th career shutout.
Daniel Cleary had a goal and an assist, while Brian Rafalski and Johan Franzen also scored for Detroit, which leads the NHL with 31 wins and 65 points. The Red Wings have a 20-point advantage over St. Louis for the lead in the Central Division.
Forward Tomas Holmstrom missed his seventh straight game due to a right knee injury. He remains day-to-day despite not having played since December 20, and his 17 goals on the season are still second best on the club.
Detroit has won five in a row on the road and is 14-5-2 as the visiting team this season. Tonight marks the second of back-to-back road tilts for the club, which plays its next two at home.

NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, Buffalo Sabres hope to light the lamp versus Atlanta Thrashers

NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, Buffalo Sabres hope to light the lamp versus Atlanta Thrashers

(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres are finding goals hard to come by lately. Playing against the Thrashers may help that, as the club heads to Atlanta for a test tonight at Philips Arena.
The Sabres are currently on a season-long five-game slide (0-3-2) and have netted just eight goals in that span. However, Atlanta has allowed 140 goals so far this season, third most in the Eastern Conference.
No one on the Sabres has netted more than 15 goals yet this season, with Jochen Hecht's 14 leading the way.
Buffalo is trying to avoid its longest losing streak since going 0-5-1 from March 18-27, 2006.
Buffalo trailed 3-1 in Friday's contest with Ottawa before Hecht and Michael Ryan scored consecutive goals to even things up in the third. However, the Senators answered with two straight tallies to claim a 5-3 victory.
Ales Kotalik also scored for Buffalo, while Ryan Miller allowed three goals on 16 shots before he was replaced by Jocelyn Thibault, who finished the game with nine saves.
Drew Stafford played for the first time since sustaining a concussion on December 26, however, Daniel Paille left the game with a head injury and sore neck after taking a hit in the first period. He is questionable for tonight's game.
Buffalo is 8-9-2 on the road this season and begins a three-game swing tonight. The club will also play in New Jersey and Ottawa.
Meanwhile, Atlanta missed an opportunity to make up ground in the Southeast Division. After defeating the standing's leader, Carolina, on the road in overtime on Wednesday, the Hurricanes handed the Thrashers a 4-3 setback on Friday.
The loss dropped Atlanta five points back of Carolina in the standings.
Mark Recchi and Todd White had a goal and an assist each for Atlanta, which has lost four of its last six. White now has a helper in five straight games while also netting a goal in that span.
Pascal DuPuis also scored, while Kari Lehtonen turned aside 29-of-33 shots in defeat.
Carolina held Ilya Kovalchuk, the NHL's current leading goal scorer with 33, without a goal, but the Russian playmaker did tally an assist to run his point streak to five games. He has four goals and seven helpers during that run, and Friday's game marked just the fourth time in his last 11 games Kovalchuk was held without a goal.
The setback came in the opener of a five-game homestand for Atlanta, which fell to 10-10-0 as the host this season. The Thrashers have still won four of their last six at Philips Arena.
Buffalo posted a 6-0 win over Atlanta when the teams met for the first time this season back on October 11. Brian Campbell and Tim Connolly had a goal and two assists each in that win, which was part of the Thrashers' 0-6-0 start to the year that cost former head coach Bob Hartley his job.
The Sabres have won three of their last four against the Thrashers and seven of the last 11, as well as three of their last five trips to Atlanta.

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Pittsburgh Panthers battles Villanova Wildcats in Top-25 showdown

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Pittsburgh Panthers battles Villanova Wildcats in Top-25 showdown

Villanova, PA (Sports Network) - In what promises to be an entertaining Big East Conference battle, the 17th-ranked Villanova Wildcats welcome the 13th- ranked Pittsburgh Panthers to town.
Pittsburgh won its first 11 games this season, so an ugly 80-55 loss to Dayton in the 12th outing was completely unexpected. The Panthers had an opportunity to get back on track against Lafayette on Wednesday, and they rolled to a 96-75 victory in that clash. Pitt is 2-1 in true road games and brings its physical style into the Pavilion.
Villanova carried a six-game win streak into its most recent game against DePaul on Thursday, but that league opener resulted in a surprising 84-76 setback. The Wildcats, who are 6-0 at home, own a 10-2 overall record, and their only other loss came by one point to NC State back in November.
Villanova holds a 29-26 series edge over Pittsburgh, but the Panthers have won five of the last seven meetings.
Sam Young has started all 13 games this season, and he is averaging 17.6 ppg for Pitt on the strength of his 53.1 percent shooting from the floor. Young is also pulling down 7.3 rpg, the second-best average on the roster. Levance Fields is posting 11.9 ppg, and he has dished out 65 assists for the Panthers against only 23 turnovers. Unfortunately, Fields is out indefinitely with a broken foot. DeJaun Blair is contributing 11.6 ppg and 9.2 rpg, and he has blocked 21 shots. The fourth and final double-digit scorer for Pitt is Mike Cook with 10.4 ppg, but he too is missing in action as he recently suffered a torn ACL. While racking up 79.8 ppg at the offensive end, Pitt is surrendering only 61.9 ppg on 39.5 percent shooting from the field. In the romp over Lafayette, the Panthers shot a staggering 67.3 percent from the floor, including 10-of-16 from behind the arc. They got 20 points from Keith Benjamin and 19 points from both Young and Tyrell Biggs.
Villanova played poor defense in the loss to DePaul, as the Blue Demons were able to connect on 51.1 percent of their field goal attempts. The Wildcats were also outrebounded and outscored from the foul line by a narrow margin. Corey Fisher led the way in defeat for 'Nova with 23 points, as he shot 8-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-10 from three-point range. Dante Cunningham pitched in 16 points in defeat, and Scottie Reynolds managed 11. Reynolds is averaging 16.5 ppg this season to lead the team, as he is also tops with 56 assists. Fisher checks in with 13.0 ppg, and Shane Clark nets an additional 11.5 ppg. Cunningham is close behind with 11.4 ppg for the Wildcats, who are posting 80.2 ppg this season while holding foes to 69.6 ppg. Clearly, however, the defensive effort against DePaul was not up to par.

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels opens ACC slate at No. 19 Clemson Tigers

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels opens ACC slate at No. 19 Clemson Tigers

Clemson, SC (Sports Network) - The top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels take their game on the road as they battle the 19th-ranked Clemson Tigers in ACC action.
North Carolina has been atop the AP poll for nine straight weeks, the longest such stretch for the program since 1986. The Tar Heels are a perfect 14-0, and all but three of the wins have come by double figures. They were most recently in action on Wednesday when they knocked off Kent State in a 90-61 final.
Clemson has won two straight games to fall to 12-1 overall, and the team is a perfect 7-0 at home. The Tigers managed to knock off Alabama on the road on New Year's Day, 87-61, and while the non-conference schedule has been rather soft, there have been a few impressive wins along the way.
North Carolina owns a commanding 118-19 series lead over Clemson, including six straight wins over the Tigers.
Tyler Hansbrough has been the leading scorer for UNC in 10 of the 14 games played, and he has been tops in rebounding 10 times as well. The All-American power forward is currently averaging 22.4 ppg and 9.6 rpg, and he is shooting 58.5 percent from the floor. Hansbrough has connected on 113-of-138 free-throw attempts, tremendous volume and accuracy for 14 games. Wayne Ellington is posting 16.7 ppg for the Tar Heels on the strength of his 40.3 percent shooting from behind the arc. UNC is also getting 13.0 ppg from Ty Lawson and 12.9 ppg from Danny Green. The Tar Heels are racking up 92.2 ppg on 50.3 percent overall shooting, and they are holding foes to 68.6 ppg on 40.9 percent shooting. In the romp over Kent State last time out, North Carolina connected on 52.3 percent of its field goal attempts and limited the Golden Flashes to 39.7 percent shooting. The Heels also earned a 40-30 rebounding advantage.
K.C. Rivers is the leading scorer for Clemson, as he is netting 16.0 ppg to go along with 7.3 rpg. Terrence Oglesby checks in with 12.5 ppg, and James Mays is contributing 12.3 ppg. The fourth and final double-digit scorer on the roster is Cliff Hammonds with 10.2 ppg. The Tigers are averaging 82.0 ppg on the strength of their 40.7 percent shooting from three-point range, and they are holding their opponents to just 64.8 ppg. Strong rebounding has been key to Clemson's success, as it is pulling down nine rebounds per game more than the opposition. The Tigers connected on 53.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the blowout victory over Alabama. They limited the Crimson Tide to 39.7 percent shooting and earned a 42-29 rebounding advantage. Mays and Trevor Booker scored 18 points apiece, and Oglesby added 17 points for Clemson.

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Big East brawl pits No. 10 Marquette Golden Eagles against West Virginia Mountaineers

Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - The 10th-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles pay a visit to the West Virginia Mountaineers as the two meet this afternoon in Big East Conference action.
Marquette has won its last seven games since the only loss of the season, a four-point setback to national powerhouse Duke. The Golden Eagles were last in action on Thursday when they knocked off Providence by a 96-67 final. This game for Marquette marks just the team's second true road contest of the campaign.
As for West Virginia, it has suffered back-to-back losses after stringing together eight consecutive wins. The Mountaineers opened league play with a 69-56 setback at Notre Dame on Thursday, as the squad was held well below its season scoring average. WVU has won all six of its home games thus far.
Marquette holds a 3-2 edge over West Virginia in the all-time series, but the Golden Eagles have never won a game over the Mountaineers on the road.
Marquette is averaging 82.1 ppg on 49.9 percent shooting from the floor, and the club is limiting foes to 59.8 ppg on 39.3 percent field goal efficiency. The Golden Eagles have been strong on the boards, as they are pulling down 6.8 rpg more than the opposition. Dominic James is the leading scorer for Marquette, as he is averaging 15.3 ppg on 40 percent shooting from behind the arc. He has also dished out 52 assists to go along with 26 steals. Jerel McNeal adds 13.4 ppg, Lazar Hayward is netting 13.3 ppg, and Wesley Matthews pitches in with 10.4 ppg. The Golden Eagles shot 53.3 percent from the floor in the Big East Conference opener against Providence. James scored 21 points in that clash, and he dished out six assists. Hayward tallied 17 points, Matthews posted 16, and Ousmane Barro poured in 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
West Virginia is racking up 83.5 ppg this season while limiting the opposition to just 60.5 ppg on 38.9 percent shooting from the floor. The Mountaineers have used the same starting lineup in all 13 games thus far, and four of the five starters are averaging double figures in scoring. Alex Ruoff leads the pack with 16.2 ppg, and Joe Alexander checks in with 15.4 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Da'Sean Butler is netting 12.6 ppg for WVU, and Darris Nichols is contributing 10.8 ppg. In the loss to Notre Dame, the Mountaineers shot a lowly 31.9 percent from the floor, including a disappointing 5-of-25 effort from three-point range. They only committed nine turnovers and forced the Irish into 20 giveaways, but that positive stat was not enough to overshadow the poor shooting performance.

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Duke Blue Devils hosts Cornell Big Red in obvious mismatch

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Duke Blue Devils hosts Cornell Big Red in obvious mismatch

Durham, NC (Sports Network) - In what appears to be an extremely lopsided non- conference matchup, the ninth-ranked Duke Blue Devils play host to the Cornell Big Red.
Cornell has managed victories in its last two games to improve to 6-4 overall. The most recent win came on New Year's Eve in an 86-84 decision over Quinnipiac in overtime. Clearly, however, this evening's clash marks a major leap in competition level.
Duke has been idle since December 20th when it dropped a heart-breaking 65-64 overtime loss to Pittsburgh in New York. That defeat was the first of the season for the Blue Devils, who have yet to play a true road game in 2007-08.
Duke owns a 3-0 lead in the all-time series with Cornell, and the teams haven't met since 1988.
In the thrilling victory over Quinnipiac, Ryan Wittman paced Cornell with 22 points on the strength of a 5-of-9 shooting performance from three-point range. Louis Dale pitched in 15 points, Alex Tyler added 13 points, and both Jeff Foote and Jason Hartford scored 10 points to provide further balance to the lineup. The Big Red connected on 54.4 percent of their field goal attempts, helping them overcome a 41-26 rebounding disadvantage. Wittman has connected on 51.5 percent of his three-pointers thus far and is averaging 15.9 ppg. Dale adds 14.4 ppg to the mix, but Collin Robinson is providing 11.9 ppg. Cornell is scoring a strong 78.9 ppg, but the club is permitting an almost identical 78.6 ppg to the opposition.
Duke is racking up 86.7 ppg this season on 49.9 percent shooting from the floor, including 42.4 percent from three-point range. Fortunately, the squad has been able to limit opponents to 62.0 ppg on 40.1 percent shooting, including 32.5 percent from behind the arc. The Blue Devils have committed 43 fewer turnovers than the opposition and have scored 59 more points from the foul line. Kyle Singler and Gerald Henderson are both netting 13.6 ppg for the Blue Devils, and DeMarcus Nelson adds 11.7 ppg. Jon Scheyer chips in 10.9 ppg, and Taylor King rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.8 ppg. Against Pitt the last time out, Singler and Henderson posted 17 points apiece. As for Nelson, he came through with 14 points and six assists. Duke turned the ball over 20 times and shot 37.7 percent from the floor, the two most obvious factors that led to defeat.

NFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, New York Giants (10-6) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-7)

NFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, New York Giants (10-6) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-7)

Sunday, 1:00 pm Eastern – FOX
SBG Global Opening Line: Buccaneers - 3 , Total 40

The well rested Tampa Bay Buccaneers play host to the New York Giants in an NFC Wild Card playoff matchup on Sunday. The Bucs rested many of their starters the past two weeks, losing both games while the Giants played their starters in the regular season finale against the Patriots. Which approach was correct? We’ll find out on Sunday. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Buccaneers at Home.
Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia has had success in the past in the playoffs against the Giants. This will be his third start against the Giants in the playoffs and New York is not happy to see him. Last year Garcia led the Eagles to a win against the Giants. He also completed the second-biggest playoff comeback in league history in 2003 as he led the San Francisco 49ers back from a 21 point deficit to win against New York. Garcia threw for 2,440 yards, 13 touchdowns and just four interceptions this season. He had a 94.6 quarterback rating, seventh in the league. "He certainly has done an outstanding job for them. He is the guy that you have to try to do something about," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said, "You have to get pressure on him; you have to contain him; you have to get up in his face. You have to do all of those kinds of things. And of course they are always trying to create opportunities for him to be able to be in a position that he can take full advantage of.” New York has the defense that may be able to stop Garcia. They led the league in sacks with 53. "It's not just the four guys up front; it's the perimeter blitz package," Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden said. "They're a great overload blitzing team; you're going to see their cornerbacks have sacks, their linebacking corps has sacks, sacks are coming from all over the place. It's a credit to this scheme and to their personnel, they do an excellent job."

SBG Global Current Line: Buccaneers - 3 (+105) , Total 39.5

The question will be whether the time off for Tampa’s starters helps them or hurts them. The rest definitely should help receivers Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard who were nursing injuries. The two combined for more than 1,700 receiving yards this season and may be able to take advantage of a New York secondary that may be missing starting cornerback Sam Madison who was injured last week against New England.
The Giants will try and finally win a playoff game on Sunday. They have lost their last four playoff games. They will need Eli Manning to play well if they are to have a chance. He has had an up and down season, throwing for 23 TD’s but also throwing 20 interceptions. The Bucs defense was second in the league in yards allowed (278.4 per game), first in passing defense (170.5) and third in points allowed (16.9). "They have veteran players and they are very sound with what they are doing," said Manning, "They don't give up big plays by mental mistakes. They are able to get a good pass rush whether they bring a blitz or just on the four-man rush. They mix up what they do enough and they are very sound and disciplined in their technique and in their coverage.”
New York will be missing tight end Jeremy Shockey who is out with a broken leg. The status of Madison, along with center Shaun O'Hara and linebacker Kawika Mitchell is up in the air. The Giants and Bucs have never met in the playoffs. New York leads the all-time series 10-6. Tampa Bay is 5-4 against New York at home.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Giants are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Giants are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog. The Giants are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. the NFC.
The Buccaneers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a home favorite. The Buccaneers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 vs. the NFC. The Buccaneers are 3-7 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
The Under is 6-1 in the Giants last 7 road games. The Under is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 games as a road underdog. The Under is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 vs. the NFC.
The Over is 4-0 in the Buccaneers last 4 games on grass. The Under is 5-0 in the Buccaneers last 5 playoff games as a favorite. The Over is 5-0 in the Buccaneers last 5 games overall. The Over is 4-0 in the Buccaneers last 4 vs. NFC. The Over is 4-1 in the Buccaneers last 5 games as a favorite. The Under is 4-1 in the Buccaneers last 5 playoff home games. The Under is 5-2 in the Buccaneers last 7 games as a home favorite. The Under is 7-3 in the Buccaneers last 10 playoff games overall. The Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

AFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, Tennessee Titans (10-6) at San Diego Chargers (11-5)

AFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, Tennessee Titans (10-6) at San Diego Chargers (11-5)

Sunday, 4:30 pm Eastern – CBS
SBG Global Opening Line: Chargers - 8.5 , Total 41

The biggest favorite in Wild Card playoff action this weekend is the San Diego Chargers. They are a 10 point favorite to dispatch the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Chargers come into the game playing well while Tennessee comes into the game banged up. The two teams met earlier this season in Nashville when the Chargers won 23-17 in overtime. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Charges at Home.
The first matchup resulted in four players getting fined by the NFL "I know that there's a lot of things that went on a few weeks ago when we played them at our place, a lot of bad blood in this game," said Tennessee center Kevin Mawae, “We're going to try to stay focused this week and not get caught up in the locker room trash talk and just focus on ourselves.”
Last year the Chargers came into the playoffs having won 10 straight yet lost to New England. It was their fourth straight playoff loss. This season the Chargers come into the playoffs having won six in a row. "Last year, the season we had, it felt so easy throughout the year, winning something like 10 straight," said running back LaDainian Tomlinson, "This year things have come tougher for us. We have really been in some tough games. We have lost some tough games, some close games, and we have had games where we just got embarrassed. So I think all that, you go into the playoffs with a newfound respect, somewhat."

SBG Global Current Line: Chargers - 10 , Total 39

Tennessee won last week 16-10 over the Colts to make the playoffs but quarterback Vince Young was injured in the game. Young has practiced this week but may not be at full strength on Sunday. San Diego held Young in check in the first game between the teams and picked him off twice. The Chargers led the NFL with 30 interceptions and finished fifth in scoring defense, allowing 17.8 points per game. "Their defense is playing very, very well," Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said. "They're healthy. They're getting turnovers. Their offense has a running back that's pretty good. They've got pretty good receivers and an All-Pro tight end, and a quarterback that knows what to do with the football." The Titans were already missing receiver Brandon Jones.

NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, Los Angeles Kings aim to avoid getting burnt by Calgary Flames

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings continue their season-long six-game homestand tonight with a visit from the Calgary Flames at the Staples Center.
The Kings began the residency in a big way with a 9-2 victory over Chicago on New Year's Day, but then fell in defeat against Columbus, 4-3, on Thursday.Patrick O'Sullivan had a goal and an assist for the Kings, who had a three- game winning streak halted as well.
Brian Willsie and Dustin Brown also lit the lamp.Jason LaBarbera was dealt the loss between the pipes, yielding one goal on 16 shots after Jean-Sebastien Aubin was pulled in the second period. Aubin surrendered three goals on just 12 shots faced in the contest.
Los Angeles is expected to again be without Michael Cammalleri, who is doubtful for tonight's game due to strained rib cartilage and hasn't played since December 22.
The Kings are 9-13-1 as the home team this year and will also host Nashville, Toronto and Dallas on this stand.Meanwhile, Calgary will play the second of back-to-back road games tonight.
The Flames are 11-7-1 as the road team and won for the seventh time in eight games as the visiting squad with a 3-2 overtime victory in San Jose on Thursday.
Jarome Iginla scored 3:26 into overtime to lift the Flames.
In the extra frame, Calgary's Anders Eriksson carried the puck across the blue line and his wrist shot was saved by Evgeni Nabokov.
Dion Phaneuf followed the rebound and sent a backhand pass into the low slot, where Iginla easily sent a one-timer into the back of the cage from the base of the right circle.
Iginla also lit the lamp in regulation and has 31 goals on the season, second in the NHL.
He is third in the NHL with 57 points and has seven goals in his last five games.Alex Tanguay scored the other goal for Calgary, which has won four straight games.
Miikka Kiprusoff made 34 saves in the victory.

NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, San Jose Sharks host Columbus Blue Jackets hoping to end home woes

NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, San Jose Sharks host Columbus Blue Jackets hoping to end home woes

(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks will try to bring their five-game home losing streak to a close tonight, when they welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to the HP Pavilion.
The Sharks woes at home are surprising, given how successful the club has been on the road.
San Jose is 0-3-2 in its past five at home, and Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to Calgary halted a four-game overall winning streak. Each of those wins came on the road, where the team is 16-3-2 and has won a franchise- best 10 in a row. However, the Sharks are just 6-9-4 as the host.
Torrey Mitchell and Craig Rivet scored against the Flames for San Jose, which has earned at least a point in nine of its last 12 games overall (7-3-2) and is tied with Dallas for first place in the Pacific Division.
Evgeni Nabokov allowed three goals on 20 shots for the Sharks.
Columbus was sparked by the return of Michael Peca on Thursday, as he was activated from injured reserve before the game and went on to net two goals in a 4-3 victory over the Kings, including the game-winning goal late in the third period.Peca had missed the last five games due to a concussion.
The Blue Jackets did place David Vyborny on IR as well due to a groin injury.Sergei Fedorov and Joakim Lindstrom each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, who have won three of four. Jan Hejda and Jared Boll each recorded two assists and Fredrik Norrena stopped 30 shots in the victory.
Columbus has split the first two games of a four-game road trip, with Thursday's win snapping a three-game losing streak as the visitor. The Blue Jackets, who will wrap the trek on Tuesday in St. Louis, are 6-10-2 on the road this year.
Columbus recorded a 2-1 home win back on October 27 against San Jose, but the Sharks have still won four of the last seven and seven of the last 11 in the series.
San Jose also owns victory in five straight home meetings with the Blue Jackets.
Columbus is 1-11 all-time at San Jose.

AFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, Jacksonville Jaguars (11-5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)

AFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, Jacksonville Jaguars (11-5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)

Saturday, 8:00 pm Eastern – NBC
SBG Global Opening Line: Steelers - 1 , Total 39.5

The only road team favored in the Wild Card playoffs is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Football bettors have bet Jacksonville from a one point underdog to a 2.5 point favorite at Pittsburgh in their Wild Card matchup on Saturday night at Heinz Field. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Jaguars on the Road.
The Jaguars have the better record but the Steelers have experience and home field advantage. The Steelers are also without Pro Bowl running back Willie Parker. Jacksonville defeated Pittsburgh just a few weeks ago 29-22 at Heinz Field. It was the only game Pittsburgh lost at home this season. The Jaguars won six of seven games before losing a meaningless regular season finale.
The Steelers come into the game having lost three of four and their #1 rated defense has given up 28.5 points and 373 yards per game. The Steelers will be missing defensive end Aaron Smith and tackles Marvel Smith and Max Starks. "Whoever hoists that Lombardi Trophy in a month or so will have had injury issues and will have found ways to overcome it," Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said. "We don't dwell on that. It's as much a part of the game as blocking and tackling. The healthy guys play and the standard of expectation doesn't change." The Pittsburgh defense will try and contain running back Fred Taylor who ran for 147 yards on 25 carries in the last meeting. The Jaguars finished the regular season with the AFC's top rushing attack at 149.4 yards per game and 4.6 yards per carry. "Because we won up there, it gives our team an edge, but I don’t think we'll be overconfident. Maybe they'll say the first one was a fluke, but the bottom line is who plays hardest on Saturday night," Taylor said. "You don’t want to put too much pressure on your shoulders. You don't want to worry yourself half to death. If we stick to our routine, we'll be fine."

SBG Global Current Line: Jaguars -2.5 (-115) , Total 39.5

The weather forecast for Saturday night is good and that could help Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He was the AFC’s second rated passer behind Tom Brady. The third rated passer was Jacksonville’s David Garrard who was 9-3 as the starter this season, throwing for 18 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Roethlisberger completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 3,154 yards with 32 TDs and 11 interceptions. Roethlisberger is 5-1 in the postseason, including a Super Bowl win when he was the youngest quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl. “I think it helps,” Roethlisberger said of having postseason experience. “I think you have to know what the mentality is because I remember my first year I didn’t know what it was about and got killed with it.”
Jacksonville will be trying to make history in Saturday’s game. No team has ever won at Pittsburgh twice in the same season.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Jaguars are 5-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Jaguars are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite. The Jaguars are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games on grass. The Jaguars are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Jaguars are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games as a road favorite. The Jaguars are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 playoff games. The Jaguars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 playoff games. The Steelers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home underdog. The Steelers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Steelers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 playoff home games. The home team is 14-5 ATS in their last 19 meetings between the two teams and the underdog is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
The Over is 4-0-1 in the Jaguars last 5 games as a favorite. The Over is 6-0 in the Jaguars last 6 road games. The Over is 16-5-1 in the Jaguars last 22 games overall. The Under is 4-0 in the Steelers last 4 games as an underdog. The Over is 6-1 in the Steelers last 7 playoff home games. The Over is 4-1 in the Steelers last 5 playoff games as an underdog. The Over is 9-4 in the Steelers last 13 games as a home underdog. The Under is 13-6 in the last 19 meetings between the two teams.

NFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, Washington Redskins (9-7) at Seattle Seahawks (10-6)

NFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, Washington Redskins (9-7) at Seattle Seahawks (10-6)

Saturday, 4:30 pm Eastern – NBC
SBG Global Opening Line: Seahawks - 4 , Total 41

The Washington Redskins will try and keep their momentum going as they take on the Seattle Seahawks in an NFC Wild Card playoff matchup on Saturday. The Redskins were 5-7 when safety Sean Taylor was killed but have gone 4-0 since then. "I wouldn't want to play us right now,” Washington defensive end Phillip Daniels said, "To be honest with you, I wouldn't. Because of the things we've done. We've played solid defense, the offense has played great, special teams. We're hitting on all cylinders right now.” SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Seahawks at Home.
The Redskins are doing everything right of late. They are running the ball with running back Clinton Portis, throwing effectively with quarterback Todd Collins and playing tough defense. "We're not happy just to be here. We feel like we can do some damage," linebacker London Fletcher said.Collins has completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 888 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Two years ago, the Redskins played Seattle in the playoffs and lost 20-10. "We're a lot better team than that one,” Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs said, "We were really struggling on offense in 2005.”

SBG Global Current Line: Seahawks -3.5 (-105) , Total 39.5

Seattle comes into the game with the better record at 10-6 but they lost two of their final three games and were awful on defense. They gave up 44 points to the Falcons in their last game. "We don't enter the postseason on a positive note. But we will do what we've got to do," Seahawks linebacker Julian Peterson said. The key for Seattle will be to contain the run and get pressure on Collins. Peterson and defensive end Patrick Kearney combined for 24 sacks this season. The Seattle offense is led by quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and running back Shaun Alexander. Hasselbeck set franchise records for completions (352), attempts (562) and passing yards (3,966), this season. Seattle has won three straight playoff games at Qwest Field.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Redskins are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Redskins are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in January. The Redskins are 19-7-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Redskins are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.
The Seahawks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite. The Seahawks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. the NFC. The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.
The Under is 4-0 in the Redskins last 4 playoff games. The Under is 6-2 in the Redskins last 8 games in January. The Under is 34-16-2 in the Redskins last 52 games as a road underdog. The Under is 4-1 in the Seahawks last 5 playoff home games. The Under is 7-3 in the Seahawks last 10 games as a home favorite.

Gambling and The Famous People Who Had The Ideas

Gambling and The Famous People Who Had The Ideas

Gambling is a recreational activity prevalent in society today. Young and old alike, people are getting hooked to what today’s society calls as the game of the lucky ones. Generally, gambling refers to any form of activities that involves taking the risk of betting the money or any kind of tangible items of value, which sometimes depend on chance or the skill of somebody to manipulate the game.
Since its inception, the profitability that gambling can offer to an individual is endless. That is why gambling had continuously dominated the world of chances. However, even if gambling like blackjack, poker, and slot machines are so popular these days, people still do not have any idea how it started and who started it. Here is a list of the people who, in some way or another, contributed to the development of gambling.
a) The first ever slot machine, known as the Liberty Bell, was invented by Charles Fey in 1985. Fey was a car mechanic in San Francisco when he thought of inventing the Liberty Bell. The first form of slot machine was made of three spinning wheels that had three featured shapes: spades, diamonds, and hearts plus a “cracked” Liberty Bell drawn at each reel. It was on 1907 when an arcade-like machine maker based in Chicago had thought of reproducing machines similar to that of Fey’s. The manufacturer was named Henry Stephen Mills. The machine was called Operator Bell. It was from this point that the slot machines have evolved until today’s form.
b) In card games such as blackjack, nobody can ever tell how the game started and who started it. This is because nobody tried to record it for the purpose of history. However, there were people who conceptualized the basic strategy for playing blackjack. It was in 1958 when Cantey, McDermott, Maisel and Baldwin had devised a strategy that caused such commotion with both the statisticians and the gamblers themselves. These four people have created the basic strategy in playing the game all using their hand calculators. After which, they created a book known as “Winning Blackjack,” which is now considered as one of the most valuable strategies in playing blackjack. In turn, this gave birth to what modern gambling now calls as the “card counting techniques.”
These are the people who have made the gambling world truly a phenomenon. Though, there are people who do not accept them as great inventors because of the negative effects of gambling in the society today. Nevertheless, they have contributed a lot in gambling.

Gambling Facts about High Rollers and Their Mindset

Gambling Facts about High Rollers and Their Mindset

Gambling is such a lucrative activity where gains are manifested only to those who have access to it. Generally, gambling is considered as a game of chance. Everybody would love to gamble because of the fact that it could provide them easy money without having to toil and wait longer. Others contend that the reason why people love gambling is based on the fact that they consider it as a play, a game that gives them the kind of satisfaction that they need. They find it as an outlet that deviates from the usual life they have whenever they are at work or at home.
Who are the Gambling Players, and in a typical casino environment, people who are seen playing poker, blackjack, roulette usually come from different walks of life. Normally, they would put a reasonable bet on something that they think would be enough to give them back their stakes plus a hefty amount of money if ever they win.
But there are players who place bets or stakes with large amount of money. These players are known as the high-rollers of the casino. These high rollers are those that usually deposit $1,000 or more. The reason why high rollers exist in the casinos is based on the fact that there are special bonuses that are only designated to people who deposit large amounts of money. And most often than not, these high rollers are the ones that usually win and take the money from other bets.
No wonder why a particular thinking had evolved. This is known as the high-rollers mindset. The high rollers mindset is a way of thinking of most casino players or gamblers that conceptualizes the idea that the higher the bet, the higher the chances of winning and getting bigger amount of money.
High-rollers mindset is usually employed by high-rollers or those who gamble a lot of money. They believe that by placing large amounts of money as their bets, they would be able to get the special bonuses being offered by the casino. Plus, they can even have more benefits that are only entitled to the high rollers if ever they get to win the game.
Having a high-roller mindset is not at all wrong, especially if a person has a lot of money to bet. The only drawback is that it tends to let a person gamble a lot of money just for the thought that he or she might win. The bottom line is that high rollers who gamble more have higher chances of losing more. After all, it is still gambling where people are never sure if they will win or not.

Online Gambling Scams and How to Avoid Them

Online Gambling Scams and How to Avoid Them

Gambling scams were never as recognized and as widespread as when it finally came in contact with cyber space. Online gambling, although beneficiary for those gambling aficionados, allowing them to gamble and avail of the enjoyment at home, also has some of its downsides more specifically the existence of online gambling scams.
Online scams usually include the refusal of a certain game company to “give you” your winnings. Some gambling scams may even go as far as totally refusing to let you win with absurd probabilities, and then refusing to let you cash out the remaining money you’ve got left.
One way to avoid these scams is to know what they are. Here are two most prevailing online gambling scams that you should be aware of, and should be able to detect easily. a) Illegitimate Bonuses; Some gambling companies even go as far as inviting their former scammed customers under the ruse of “bonuses” telling them how sympathetic they are about you being scammed, and offering a bonus if you play with them instead. Just think, where did they get your contact details? Well they got it from that short form you filled out when you joined the first scam casino, and they’re actually looking to rip you off again.
What do they do? When it is actually time for you to claim your bonus, they say that you are ineligible to receive the bonus.
To avoid being re-scammed, never fall for these types of offers. Even if you have not been scammed yet, they would still send you a bonus offer then refuse to give it to you once you have deposited your money. A good rule of thumb with online gambling, if it is too good to be true, then it probably is.
b) Piracy; One way to know a legitimate online casino is its affiliations and memberships; one such is the Interactive Gaming Council (ICG). However, logos provided by such organizations can easily be copied on the net, and what scammers do, is they imitate, sometimes, go as far as duplicating the design of a legitimate casino to pass off theirs. It is a good measure to look up the name of the online casino on the members list of the certain organization. ICG and others usually provide an easy to browse and search members list on their web sites.
To make sure that the casino you’re subscribing to is legit, type the company name and the word review in the search engine and read about them, you will more or less get an idea of how they work.

Offline Gambling and Low Risk Gambling

Offline Gambling and Low Risk Gambling

There is no foolproof way to always win when gambling. That is why it is called gambling, you take risks and reap the benefits when lady lucks sides by you, but this is not always the case. Most of the time people end up being addicted, losing all that they have worked for all in the belief that gambling is the real get rich quick solution.
Gambling is addictive; therefore there is no real risk-free solution. But a person can still continue gambling without really getting addicted or getting drastically affected.
High risk gambling does not necessarily mean you spend a lot of money. Think of gambling as a form of entertainment. Like other ways to get yourself entertained, you sometimes spend nothing and sometimes a lot. Think of it as a play that you watch, except you participate in it actively. Therefore, low-risk gambling is essentially avoiding the mindset of losses, if you do not think you lost then you probably did not.
Low risk gambling is essentially a mindset, not a drug, not a shrink; you can avoid gambling risks by thinking like a low risk gambler.
A low risk gambler knows that as time passes, most people will lose. The only party that wins in this gambling arena is the company that runs the casino. Never expect to win back what you have invested as this can only set your mind to play and play until you realize that you do not have any money left to play anymore.
A low risk gambler should know that he is only playing for recreation, for entertainment, and like all forms of entertainment, gambling has a cost. By doing this, you do not recognize the losses as losses but rather expenditures. Just put it in your mind that the money you lost is the amount you pay for the entertainment, and do not necessarily have to be won back.
Low-risk gambling is social gambling. The gambling part should be done with friends, family and loved ones. The presence of friends provides a content sensation that is very different from winning, and can help you focus away from winning. Gambling on your own can make it seem like a form of work, making it serious, letting you focus on losing rather than enjoyment.
Low-Risk gambling should be limited, both in frequency and duration. If you hare trying to lower offline gambling risk, you should be able to draft a timetable for yourself. Compulsive gambling should never be tolerated, and this may be a sign of a starting addiction.

Online Gambling Risks and Scams

Online Gambling Risks and Scams

Online gambling has many risks, aside from the risks on the game there are also the risks of scams and frauds. In the internet, these are not really uncommon. The internet reaches far and wide and it is no wonder that dishonest people have finally found a way to again con more honest people out of the money that they have worked hard to earn.
Online gambling risk comes in many shapes and sizes, aside from the addiction risk, there are of course the risk of scams.
Therefore you should know if the online casino you are entering is legitimate or not, and in today’s day and age, that is very hard to do. Scammer Casinos need only to copy the layouts of legitimate casinos and adopt them as their own, including memberships and certifications. Logos and banners are very easy to copy so be weary of these.
The only way to make sure that you do not get scammed is to go to online casinos approved by trustworthy organizations like the Interactive Gaming commission. If however, you get invited, to a site, do not make any deposits yet. Look up their certifications and make sure that these are indeed true by doing a quick search on the organization that gave the certification.
Most online gaming organizations have a quick search function that allows you to search for members. Usually, scammer casinos do not take the time to become members because they usually “change names” in short periods, usually when their scam gets discovered.
Like any form of gambling, the risk does not necessarily come in the game, because the risk is part of the game, but risks that we are talking about here go beyond winning and losing money.
The highest risk is getting addicted, and gambling should be a form of entertainment, and should not be viewed otherwise. It is not a living and it definitely is not a gold mine. This is what is wrong about today’s gamblers, and they view it as a fast way to get money.
You should know that a low risk gambler views playing in casinos, online or offline should be only a form of entertainment, and once you think that it is a living, it is already the onset of addiction.
To lower your gambling risk, make sure that you limit yourself. Never play for more than you thought you would, or for longer than you thought you will. Draft the length of time and the amount of money you would play, kind of like scheduling dinner or a trip to the movies.
