NBA Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Indiana Pacers open road trip against Los Angeles Lakers
(Sports Network) - The Indiana Pacers open a five-game road trip when they visit the surging Los Angeles Lakers tonight at the Staples Center.
This is the second and final meeting of the campaign between the squads. On November 20th, superstar Kobe Bryant poured in 32 points as the Lakers knocked off Indiana, 134-114, at Conseco Fieldhouse.
The Lakers have won two of the last three contests in the series. Indiana has lost eight straight and 14 of its last 15 at the Lakers.
The last time the Pacers defeated the Lakers on the road was on February 14, 1999.
Indiana enters tonight's contest off a solid victory. Danny Granger scored a game-high 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as the Pacers rolled past the Atlanta Hawks, 113-91, on Friday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Mike Dunleavy notched a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Pacers, who snapped a five-game losing streak. Kareem Rush scored 20 points off the bench for Indiana in the victory.
The Pacers are 8-9 on the road this season. They will also visit Utah, Phoenix, Sacramento and Golden State on the current swing.
The Lakers play the finale of a five-game homestand. On Friday, Andrew Bynum had 17 points and 16 rebounds, and the Lakers bench took over in the second half as Los Angeles cruised to a 124-93 stomping of the Philadelphia 76ers at the Staples Center.
Rookie Javaris Crittenton scored a career-high 19 points for the Lakers, who had plenty of time to rest their starters thanks to a lead that hit the 30s in the third quarter. Derek Fisher scored 17 points and Jordan Farmar netted 16, while Bryant finished with a quiet 15 points for the Lakers, who have won five of six and 11 of their last 14 games overall.
The Lakers played without forward Lamar Odom, who was suspended one game for his flagrant foul on Boston's Ray Allen in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 110-91 loss on December 30. Odom is expected back on the court against Indiana.
LA is 12-5 as the host this season. The Lakers will visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday at the FedExForum.
