AFC Wild Card Betting Playoffs, Jacksonville Jaguars (11-5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)
Saturday, 8:00 pm Eastern – NBC
SBG Global Opening Line: Steelers - 1 , Total 39.5
The only road team favored in the Wild Card playoffs is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Football bettors have bet Jacksonville from a one point underdog to a 2.5 point favorite at Pittsburgh in their Wild Card matchup on Saturday night at Heinz Field. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Jaguars on the Road.
The Jaguars have the better record but the Steelers have experience and home field advantage. The Steelers are also without Pro Bowl running back Willie Parker. Jacksonville defeated Pittsburgh just a few weeks ago 29-22 at Heinz Field. It was the only game Pittsburgh lost at home this season. The Jaguars won six of seven games before losing a meaningless regular season finale.
The Steelers come into the game having lost three of four and their #1 rated defense has given up 28.5 points and 373 yards per game. The Steelers will be missing defensive end Aaron Smith and tackles Marvel Smith and Max Starks. "Whoever hoists that Lombardi Trophy in a month or so will have had injury issues and will have found ways to overcome it," Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said. "We don't dwell on that. It's as much a part of the game as blocking and tackling. The healthy guys play and the standard of expectation doesn't change." The Pittsburgh defense will try and contain running back Fred Taylor who ran for 147 yards on 25 carries in the last meeting. The Jaguars finished the regular season with the AFC's top rushing attack at 149.4 yards per game and 4.6 yards per carry. "Because we won up there, it gives our team an edge, but I don’t think we'll be overconfident. Maybe they'll say the first one was a fluke, but the bottom line is who plays hardest on Saturday night," Taylor said. "You don’t want to put too much pressure on your shoulders. You don't want to worry yourself half to death. If we stick to our routine, we'll be fine."
SBG Global Current Line: Jaguars -2.5 (-115) , Total 39.5
The weather forecast for Saturday night is good and that could help Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He was the AFC’s second rated passer behind Tom Brady. The third rated passer was Jacksonville’s David Garrard who was 9-3 as the starter this season, throwing for 18 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Roethlisberger completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 3,154 yards with 32 TDs and 11 interceptions. Roethlisberger is 5-1 in the postseason, including a Super Bowl win when he was the youngest quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl. “I think it helps,” Roethlisberger said of having postseason experience. “I think you have to know what the mentality is because I remember my first year I didn’t know what it was about and got killed with it.”
Jacksonville will be trying to make history in Saturday’s game. No team has ever won at Pittsburgh twice in the same season.
