NBA Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Los Angeles Clippers host Duncan, San Antonio Spurs
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers continue their homestand, as they welcome the defending world champion San Antonio Spurs today to the Staples Center.
This is the second meeting of the season between the teams. On December 22nd, Tim Duncan scored a game-high 34 and pulled down 18 rebounds, to lead San Antonio to a 99-90 win over the Clippers at the AT&T Center.
San Antonio has won three straight and six of its last seven at the Clippers. The Spurs have won six in a row in the series.
Los Angeles is 1-1 on its six-game homestand. On Wednesday, David West scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the New Orleans Hornets defeated the Clippers, 95-81, at the Staples Center.
Corey Maggette scored 20 points in the loss to New Orleans for the Clippers, who have lost seven of their last eight games overall. Chris Kaman ended with nine points, while rookie Al Thornton came off the bench to score 15 in defeat.
The Clippers are 5-10 as the host this season. They will also play Orlando, Dallas and Phoenix on the current homestand.
San Antonio opens a brief two-game road trip. On Friday, Bruce Bowen hit two key free throws down the stretch and led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points as the Spurs held off the New York Knicks, 97-93, at AT&T Center.
Michael Finley and Matt Bonner both added 14 points, and Tim Duncan had 12 points and nine rebounds in the win over New York for the Spurs, who have won four of their last six games overall. Tony Parker ended with 12 points for San Antonio, which has won five straight against the Knicks.
Manu Ginobili, who has missed five straight games, is hampered by a sprained left index finger and is questionable for today's contest. He is averaging 19.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists this season for San Antonio.
The Spurs are 5-7 on the road this season. They will visit Baron Davis and the Golden State Warriors on Monday at ORACLE Arena.
