NBA Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies meet in Memphis
(Sports Network) - The disappointing Miami Heat continue their road trip when they stop off in Memphis today to battle the Grizzlies at FedExForum.
This is the first of two contests between the squads this season. Miami is scheduled to host the Grizzlies on April 11th at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Miami has won four in a row over Memphis. The Heat won two straight after losing their last three at the Grizzlies.
The Heat play the second of a five-game swing. On Friday, Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks came back to edge Miami, 94-89, at American Airlines Center.
The struggling Heat, who dropped their sixth straight, played without guard Dwyane Wade (sore right pinkie, bruised right shoulder) center Shaquille O'Neal (sore left hip), guard Jason Williams (left knee inflammation), and forward Dorell Wright (sprained left ankle).
Wade and Williams, who has missed five straight games, are both questionable for today's contests.
Ricky Davis finished 17 points, six rebounds and seven assists to lead five Heat players in double figures. Mark Blount also scored 17, while Udonis Haslem had 16 points and nine rebounds for Miami.
Miami will also visit Minnesota, Milwaukee and New Orleans on the current road trip. The Heat are 4-14 on the road this season.
The Grizzlies open a two-game homestand. Paul Pierce had 23 points and 10 boards to lead the Boston Celtics over Memphis, 100-96, at TD Banknorth Garden. Rudy Gay scored 21 points to lead the Grizzlies, who have lost six of their last seven games overall. Mike Miller added 16 points and eight boards, while Juan Carlos Navarro ended with 20 points for Memphis, which has lost 12 of its last 14 games overall.
Memphis is 5-11 at home this season. The Grizzlies are scheduled to host superstar Kobe Bryant and the Lakers on Tuesday at FedExForum.
