NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, Los Angeles Kings Try to Repeat Offensive Explosion in Home Test versus Columbus Blue Jackets
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings got their season-long six-game road trip off to a great start a couple of days ago.
The club will aim for another offensive output tonight when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at the Staples Center.
The Kings posted a season high in goals on Tuesday in a 9-2 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks. Ladislav Nagy notched a hat trick and two assists to lead the way.
It was Nagy's third career hat trick, and his five points matched a career high.
He also has three goals and seven assists over a five- game point streak.
Alexander Frolov set a career best with five points, netting two goals to go along with three assists, while Tom Preissing, Patrick O'Sullivan, Dustin Brown and Lubomir Visnovsky all added a goal each.
The win was the Kings' third in a row off the heels of an eight-game losing streak.
Los Angeles will try for its first four-game winning streak since October 19-27 of this season.
Jason LaBarbera made 31 saves in the win, as the Kings went 5-for-7 on the power play.
LA improved to 9-12-1 as the host this year and will also welcome Calgary, Nashville, Toronto and Dallas to town on this residency.
Columbus kicked off a four-game road trip on Wednesday and lost in Anaheim, 2-1.
Chris Pronger registered a goal and an assist to lead the Ducks.
Andrew Murray, playing in just his third NHL game, scored the only goal and Pascal Leclaire stopped 32-of-34 shots for Columbus, which had a two-game winning streak broken.
Prior to the game, Columbus activated forward Manny Malhotra from injured reserve, but is still without Michael Peca (head), Fredrik Modin (back) and David Vyborny (groin).
Peca and Modin are both on injured reserve, while Vyborny is questionable for tonight's game.
The Blue Jackets have lost three in a row on the road and are 5-10-2 as the visiting team this year. Columbus will also play in San Jose and St. Louis on its current swing.
Columbus has won both of its meetings so far this year with Los Angeles and five of the last eight in the series overall.
The Blue Jackets' win in LA on October 31 halted a six-game series road losing streak.
