NBA Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Hornets Square Off in Los Angeles
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers play the second of a six-game homestand, as they welcome the New Orleans Hornets tonight to the Staples Center.
Cuttino Mobley scored 18 points off the bench, including 10 in the fourth quarter, as the Clippers outlasted the Minnesota Timberwolves, 91-82, on Monday at the Staples Center.
Corey Maggette chipped in 17 points for the Clippers, who snapped a six-game skid despite an 0-for-14 night from beyond the arc, setting a franchise record.
Center Chris Kaman had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, while veteran Sam Cassell netted 14 in the victory.LA is just 5-10 as the host this season.
The Clippers will also play the San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks and
Phoenix Suns on the current homestand.
On the injury front for the Clippers, forward Tim Thomas is doubtful with a sprained left knee. Thomas is averaging 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 25 games this season.
He has missed the last three contests.
New Orleans tries to get back on the winning track as it opens a three-game road trip tonight. On Monday, Chris Bosh scored 29 points as Toronto overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Hornets, 97-92, at New Orleans Arena.
David West poured in a game-high 33 points for the Hornets, who had a five- game winning streak halted.
Chris Paul contributed 23 points and 16 assists, while Peja Stojakovic registered 19 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.
The Hornets are a solid 11-5 on the road this season.
They are scheduled to visit the Golden State Warriors on Friday at ORACLE Arena and the Suns on Saturday at US Airways Center.
This is the second meeting of the campaign between the Clippers and Hornets.
On November 24th, Stojakovic scored 22 points to lead New Orleans to a 98-89 victory over the Clippers at the Staples Center.
The Hornets have won three in a row in the series overall, and two straight at the Clippers.
New Orleans will host the Clippers on January 25th and April 15th at New Orleans Arena this season.
