College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers to Play Michigan Wolverines

College Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers Opens Big Ten Play at Michigan Against the Michigan Wolverines

Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - The Wisconsin Badgers have earned the 25th position in the most recent AP poll, and they are set to open the Big Ten portion of their schedule against the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor this evening.
Wisconsin has won its last four games to improve to 10-2 overall, and the club is coming off a thrilling 67-66 decision over national powerhouse Texas on Saturday. The lone losses have come against Duke and Marquette, a pair of outstanding opponents.
As for Michigan, it has lost its last two games and six of the last seven outings to plummet to 4-8 overall. The Wolverines hosted UCLA in their most recent game back on December 22nd and were clearly outclassed, losing to the Bruins by a 69-54 final. They have had trouble even remaining competitive against tough competition, so there isn't much reason for optimism heading into tonight's clash.
Michigan owns an 89-55 series lead over Wisconsin, including a 55-16 ledger at home.
Coming into the season, many wondered who would fill the void left by Wisconsin's Alando Tucker, who led his team in scoring a year ago. The answer is Trevon Hughes, who is posting 15.1 ppg. The only other double-digit scorer on the roster is Brian Butch, as he is netting 13.6 ppg to go along with 8.3 rpg. Strong defense has clearly been the key to the 10-2 start for the Badgers, as they are
limiting opponents to 54.1 ppg on 37.4 percent shooting from the field. They are also outrebounding foes by 10.3 rpg. Michael Flowers was the hero for Wisconsin in the win over Texas, as he nailed a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to claim the victory. Butch posted 21 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes of action against the Longhorns. Marcus Landry added 14 points for Wisconsin, which played without Hughes. He has an ankle injury and is questionable for tonight's clash.
Manny Harris is the leading scorer for Michigan this season, as he is posting 15.7 ppg on 37.3 percent shooting from the floor, including 27.9 percent efficiency from three-point range. DeShawn Sims is the only other double-digit scorer in the lineup for the Wolverines, as he is posting 13.5 ppg. Michigan is netting 67.2 ppg while allowing 71.6 ppg to the opposition. The Wolverines figured to struggle a bit offensively against UCLA, as the Bruins are one of the top defensive teams in the nation. That was indeed the case, as Michigan connected on only 31.3 percent of its field goal attempts, including 6-of-31 from three-point range. A 47-29 rebounding disadvantage also played a major role in the loss. Sims scored 12 points in that contest, and Harris posted 11 points.
