NHL Hockey Preview, The Sports Network, Division Leaders Clash, as Detroit Red Wings Host Dallas Stars

(Sports Network) - The top two teams in the Western Conference will meet tonight in Detroit, as the Red Wings welcome the Dallas Stars to Joe Louis Arena.
The Red Wings lead the Central Division, Western Conference and NHL with 61 points this year, while Dallas is first in the Pacific and second in the West with 50 points.
Tonight marks the first of four regular-season meetings this year between the first-place clubs. Dallas had lost four in a row to the Red Wings before notching a shootout win at Detroit in the final encounter of the 2006-07 season.
Dallas is just 2-5 with two ties in its last nine stops at Joe Louis Arena.
Detroit is actually coming off a rare loss, as it was handed just its eight regulation setback of the year Monday evening against visiting St. Louis.
Manny Legace stopped all 31 shots he faced to help St. Louis beat his former team, 2-0.Legace, who played six seasons with the Red Wings, recorded his second shutout of the season and the 20th of his career.
Additionally, the Blues shut out the Red Wings in Detroit for the first time since January 11, 1993.
Dominik Hasek turned away 21-of-22 shots in the loss for Detroit, which had a four-game winning streak snapped.
The Red Wings were
also coming off a four- game road trip that ended Saturday with a win at Phoenix.
The Red Wings are 16-3-1 as the host this season and are wrapping up a brief two-game homestand tonight.
Detroit's next test will come Sunday in Dallas, but this is not a home-and- home series since the Stars will visit Minnesota in between their next battle with the Wings.
The Stars also had a four-game winning streak halted their last time out, as they were handed a tough loss by visiting Nashville.
Dan Ellis posted his third shutout of the season and J.P. Dumont had the only goal as the Predators edged Dallas, 1-0, at American Airlines Center.
Marty Turco made 29 saves for Dallas, which also had a five-game win streak on home ice snapped.
Tonight marks the first of two in a row on the road for the Stars, who are 11-7-2 as the visiting club this year.
