Chelsea got a big come from behind win on New Year’s Day against Fulham 2-1 after trailing 1-0 at the half. Manager Avram Grant was very animated at the half and Chelsea responded with two goals in the second half to win."If it helps to win I can break the chair," Grant said, "Maybe you need it sometimes."
Fulham had taken a 1-0 lead on a penalty shot from Danny Murphy. Chelsea got the equalizer in the 54th minute as striker Salomon Kalou scored on a header. Just eight minutes later stand-in captain Michael Ballack got the winner. It was just the fourth appearance by Ballack since he suffered an ankle injury in April. "Football now has become more tactical, more physical and you need to know everything about tactics, but you need intelligent players also, and he is an intelligent player," Grant said of Ballack. "I like intelligent players because I like intelligent football. So he is important. He cannot be at his best after eight months but he is OK and he will be better.”
"The most important thing is what he can do on the pitch. He can do many things good,” Grant said. “First he can score, second he can give assists. He's a player that I like to have on the pitch. He's a hard worker."
With the win, Chelsea stays six points behind Arsenal for the Premier League lead and four points back of second place Manchester United. They are seven points clear of fourth place Liverpool although Liverpool has two games in hand.
Chelsea does not play another Soccer Betting Premier League game until Monday when they are home against Tottenham but they have a third round FA Cup game against the Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. League leaders Arsenal and Manchester United play home games they should win on Saturday as Arsenal hosts Birmingham and Manchester United hosts Newcastle.
The Premier League race looks to be turning into a three team battle between Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the pressure is on United saying, "United will be a tough opponent and Chelsea will also be involved because they had a very good result against Fulham but we have belief, talent and this team is hungry. They are good ingredients," he said.
