College Basketball Betting Preview, UCLA (12-1) at Stanford (11-1)
Thursday, 10:30 pm Eastern – FSN
SBG Global Opening Line: UCLA - 2.5 , Total TBA
The first big matchup in a loaded Pac-10 Conference takes place on Thursday night as #5 UCLA is at #20 Stanford. It will be a matchup of excellent big men as UCLA’s Kevin Love is one of the best freshmen in the country and Brook Lopez is a force for Stanford. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Basketball betting has the public taking UCLA on the Road.
UCLA has been to the last two Final Fours and won back-to-back conference regular-season crowns and is thought of as a serious Final Four contender this year. Many experts believe they will reach the Final Four because of Love who is averaging team highs of 16.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 57.8 percent shooting so far this season. "Now, it's the 18 games we're looking forward to," Love said. "We want to win the Pac-10 outright." Love will get a serious test on Thursday from Lopez who nearly went to the NBA after just one season. Perhaps he should have gone since this year has not gone as expected. He was academically ineligible for the start of the season and also suspended for a violation of team rules. He made his season debut last month and is rounding into form. He is averaging 19.3 points and 7.3 boards through three games. Stanford also has Robin Lopez, who is the twin brother of Brook. He is also a 7-footer and is averaging 10.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. "I like going into any game knowing we have two dinosaurs down there," Cardinal guard Anthony Goods said. "It opens things up for me as well as opens things up for the post. He's (Brook Lopez) definitely one of the best players out there."
SBG Global Current Line: UCLA - 2.5 , Total TBA
The Bruins went 15-3 in the Pac-10 last season but one of those losses was at Stanford. The Cardinal won 75-68 at home over the Bruins and lost at UCLA 75-61. UCLA also has to play at California on Saturday. "The Cal and Stanford trip is going to be extremely tough," UCLA head coach Ben Howland said. "They have four NBA-caliber big men between them. Both teams also have good players around their frontcourt."
The good news for UCLA is that guard Darren Collison is almost back to full strength. "I can't wait to play against Stanford without the brace," Collison said. "It was real uncomfortable. We'll see how it goes without the brace. It was limiting me defensively. I think I'll be 80 to 85 percent against Stanford." UCLA will be without Michael Roll who ruptured a tendon in his left foot at practice Monday.
